Overview

The Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences at AAUP prepares students for an entry into the medicine program following a successful pass of the degree requirement. The biomedical student is expected to master theoretical, and laboratory sciences in human anatomy, physiology, histology, epidemiology, biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and pharmacology. The program provides its students with adequate knowledge, skills and personal attributes necessary to prepare graduates in the field of biomedical sciences and medicine.

The Arab American University proposes the inclusion of this program as a conjunction degree to the medicine program for students who fully fulfil the degree requirements and AAUP regulations.

Goals

Prepare students with advanced knowledge, skills and attitude in biomedical sciences as a preparatory step to medicine program.
Equip students with evidence-based practices necessary to improve the quality of biomedical education in addition to clinical related biomedical laboratories.
Provide students with tools needed for conducting scientific research, diagnostic procedures, health promotion, and disease prevention.
Prepare students to use teamwork, quality care principles, and effective leadership for the advancement of the biomedical sciences field.
Prepare compassionate, legal, and ethically responsive biomedical experts.

Career of Graduates

Graduates of this program are expected to be qualified to work in different fields such as:

Academic career (Biomedical teaching and education).
Biotechnologist, genetics expert and policy analyst.
Specialist in cardiac, respiratory and diagnostics expertise.
Disease prevention educator, psychosocial supporter, and communicable disease control
International health, public, and private diagnostic centers
Biomedical laboratories expert (medical microbiology, clinical embryology and pharmacology).
Medical sales and marketing.
Biomedical research scientist in universities, hospitals, research institutes, and pharmaceutical and therapeutic research laboratories.

Use biomedical sciences skills effectively in conducting accurate assessment, diagnostics, and appropriate clinical interventions.

Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving

Practice data collection, critical thinking and critical evaluation of collected information to draw effective problem-solving skills.

Independent Learning in Healthcare

Demonstrate independent and self-directed learner in the provision of holistic and high-quality biomedical and medicine services.

Ethics, Safety & Cost-Effective Practices

Use ethical and safety principles, advocacy roles, and cost-effectiveness across disciplines contributing to biomedical science and medicine.
