The "Capacity Building in WASH and CSA Education and Research in Palestine" Project (20219-2022)
initiated in 2019 under the OKP program, includes the Arab American University as a key partner alongside An-Najah National University, which leads the initiative. With a total budget of €2,128,659—primarily funded by an OKP grant of €1,993,660 and co-funding of €134,999—the project aims to enhance education and research in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) across Palestinian universities. The project focuses on improving curricula, building technical and academic capacity, and fostering both national and international partnerships. Key goals include revising educational programs, enhancing competencies, and promoting cross-cutting themes of governance, gender, and entrepreneurship. Additionally, the project aims to strengthen Palestinian-Dutch institutional connections and engage alumni in supporting educational and research development.
AGRIMAR Project (2024-2025)
The "Climate Smart Agriculture for Food Security in Marginalized Communities" (AGRIMAR) project is an initiative aimed at enhancing food security and achieving sustainable development in Palestine, implemented by a consortium of partners, including the Arab American University. The project, funded with €100,000 from the DUPC3 program and an additional co-funding of €20,000 from the partners, focuses on implementing nature-based solutions and bioresource recovery from solid and liquid waste. AGRIMAR supports vulnerable rural communities by developing integrated agricultural systems, including hydroponics, water recycling, and waste-to-energy systems for producing biogas and organic fertilizers. The project emphasizes community engagement and capacity building, targeting groups such as small-scale farmers, especially women, to enhance their agricultural skills and increase their economic returns. AGRIMAR also fosters collaboration between academic institutions, the private sector, and NGOs, strengthening institutional ties between Palestine and the Netherlands to support advanced research and achieve a circular economy. The project prioritizes environmental sustainability and promotes green growth.
