Overview

The Diploma in Dental Technology and Manufacturing is a specialized academic program designed to train skilled professionals in the fabrication and maintenance of fixed and removable dental prostheses, orthodontic appliances, and dental implants. The program combines theoretical knowledge with intensive hands-on training, preparing graduates for careers in dental laboratories, hospitals, private clinics, and dental supply companies.

Students receive comprehensive training in restorative dentistry techniques, dental prosthetics, crown and bridge fabrication, and orthodontic appliance manufacturing, equipping them with the skills needed for a wide range of career opportunities in the healthcare industry. With the rapid advancements in dental technology, there is a growing demand for highly skilled technicians who can work with cutting-edge materials and equipment.

The curriculum consists of 69 credit hours completed over two academic years, including 29 credit hours of theoretical coursework and 40 credit hours of hands-on practical training. Throughout the program, students gain essential knowledge and specialized skills to ensure they are fully prepared for the job market upon graduation. The program is delivered by qualified faculty members in fully equipped dental laboratories at the college.

  1. Train skilled dental technicians with the scientific knowledge and practical skills needed to design and manufacture fixed and removable dental prosthetics.
  2. Equip students with expertise in advanced technologies, such as 3D printing and digital dental design (CAD/CAM).
  3. Develop the ability to work with various dental materials, understanding their properties to ensure high-quality prosthetic manufacturing.
  4. Provide intensive hands-on training in dental laboratories, preparing students for the fast-evolving job market.
  5. Teach quality control principles to ensure dental prosthetics meet health and industry standards.
  6. Encourage research and innovation in dental manufacturing, fostering new approaches in prosthetic design and restoration.
  7. Develop dental lab management skills, preparing students for entrepreneurial opportunities in the field.
  8. Train students to collaborate effectively with dentists, ensuring that custom dental prosthetics meet patient needs.

The program equips graduates with the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to meet the demands of the dental industry. This enables them to work in various dental technology roles, including:

  • Dental Laboratories – Working as specialists in fixed and removable prosthetics.
  • Hospitals and Dental Clinics – Supporting dentists in restorative and cosmetic treatments as a dental technician.
  • Dental Material and Equipment Companies – Assisting in the development and manufacturing of materials and tools used in dental prosthetics.
  • Entrepreneurship – Establishing and managing a private dental lab to provide advanced prosthetic services.
  • Research and Development – Contributing to innovations in dental materials and techniques.
  • Health Education Programs – Promoting oral health awareness in communities.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students should be equipped with comprehensive knowledge, skills, and abilities to excel in their endeavors.

  • Acquiring a background in the methodology of tooth preparation; the bases, armamentarium used and the main outlines to respect for each type of restoration
  • An in depth knowledge of the materials and techniques used in provisional restoration fabrication, in addition to the importance of this phase in the diagnosis, prognosis and end result of the prosthodontic treatment.
  •  An understanding of the each step of the laboratory procedures and technological improvements in the fabrication of fixed restorations.

An in depth understanding of the major principles of tooth preparation form the prerequisites to the development of satisfactory tooth preparation skills

  • Ability to practice all clinical and laboratory steps of removable prosthesis construction.
  • Ability to take history and examine edentulous and partially edentulous patients and formulating treatment plan for them.
  • To gain knowledge in immediate dentures, copy dentures, single dentures, relining and rebasing technique
  • Gain enough knowledge about impression materials and techniques for complete denture
  • Gain enough knowledge about complete denture occlusion.
  • Understand principles of fabricating and designing removable partial denture.
  • Gain the clinical skills needed for fixed prosthesis fabrication.
