Overview

Nursing education in Palestine has evolved over a relatively short period where nurses currently play an important role in ensuring high quality of health care for the nation citizen. However, the Palestinian state is experiencing a significant shortage of specialized nurses in particular advanced emergency nurses. This shortage is expected to worsen as the needs for nurses and nurse’s emergency sharply increases locally and globally due to the number of Palestinian citizens experiencing, cerebrovascular, heart disease, and trauma. This high demand is faced with absence of these specialized nurses as well as academic emergency nursing programs.

Palestinians live in a state of emergency where well-being and survival are continuously at risk related to occupation. According to the MOH, in 2016, the number of visit to the emergency services in MOH hospitals reached 864, 613 visits in the West Bank only. Such huge number of visit justify the need for specialized emergency nurses to alleviate the burden and work load of physicians as well as be able to provide high quality patient care. Specialized emergency nurse is often employed at hospital emergency departments, urgent care facilities, and in medical transport. Emergencies are unpredictable, and can happen anywhere and at any time. Being prepared and planning ahead is critical to protecting lives, and train nurses to handle a large variety of emergency situations, within a fast-paced working environment.

The proposed master program in emergency at AAUP is expected to provide exceptional emergency nurses who are capable to fill the gap and meet the emergency health care needs in Palestine.

Goals

Prepare students to conduct scientific nursing research and engage in rational inquiry using nursing processes to improve evidence-based practices in emergency care settings.
Improve student's knowledge, skills, attitudes and clinical reasoning skills necessary for the advancement of patient centered care in emergency care and community settings.
Prepare ethically responsive nurses who can provide high quality emergency nursing services.
Utilize knowledge to improve quality of health care, enhance health promotion, disease prevention, and safety nursing practice.
Synthesize advanced knowledge in emergency nursing to provide high quality of care teaching and training roles in academic and clinical settings

Director of emergency services at hospital or health service administration.
Clinical nurse in trauma centers.
Academic - serve as a teaching as well as a clinical instructor in nursing colleges.

Use high fidelity critical care simulation scenarios to enhance clinical reasoning and appropriate application of the nursing processes.

Participate in the advancement of professional emergency care nursing practice through contributions to administration, health care policy, and knowledge development.

Demonstrate caring, culturally responsive leadership communication, capable of effectively leading interdisciplinary health care teams in emergency care areas.

Translate knowledge of ethical healthcare policy decision-making of all components of nursing practice in healthcare organizational systems.

Synthesize comprehensive knowledge of evidence based nursing practice in specialized areas of health promotion and disease prevention in emergency and health care settings.

Analyze of advance concepts in emergency nursing practice, including cultural and disability concepts and Evaluate clinical management of emergency interventions.
