About Program

Overview

Human anatomy program is a multi-modal, multi-disciplinary program that implements traditional approaches and modern innovative educational approaches to teach the structure of the human body and the relationship of organs and tissues at a gross and microscopic level, as well as to train the next generation of anatomy educators and healthcare professionals.

Knowledge of anatomy is fundamental for students of medical, dental, nursing, physiotherapy and all other allied health sciences. At a time when knowledge of anatomy is increasingly imperative, medical and dental schools as well as allied health schools across Palestine are facing a deepening shortage of qualified faculty to teach gross anatomy. Gross anatomy is ranked as the most important basic science by residents and is extremely important to mastery for a safe medical practice. Some medical students have had inadequate exposure to anatomy during their clinical training and are worried about their anatomical competence when entering clerkships and residency programs.

Goals

Provide students with a broad-based, clinically-oriented knowledge in human gross anatomy, human microscopic anatomy, and human development.
Develop the student’s ability to adopt a multimodal approach to better understand the microscopic and gross anatomical structure and function.
Strengthen the student’s ability to integrate the disciplines of biomedical sciences to improve critical thinking skills required for problem solving in clinical and research conditions.
Provide students with the necessary tools and skills to teach clinically-oriented anatomy and to effectively deliver innovative anatomical pedagogical methods.
Strengthen the student’s ability to apply experimental design, analytical approaches, problem solving skills, and critical evaluation of scientific literature to the rigorous scientific investigation of a new question in the biomedical sciences.
Enhance the student’s laboratory skills required for graduate programs and career prospects in health science programs.
Promote the student’s awareness on legal principles, professional guidelines and ethical commitment in research and teaching in the field of biomedical sciences

Appraise the contribution and integration of important branches of human anatomy in providing a framework for understanding the complexity of human body structure and function.

Discuss basic clinical and pathological scenarios in relation to anatomical, physiological and developmental basis.

Integrate essential concepts in cell and molecular biology to enhance understanding of human body function in health and disease.

Apply current innovative technologies for anatomy education, and propose pedagogical strategies and theories to foster and develop the core anatomical knowledge.

Review the scientific literature to empirically identity the basic medical and clinical literature relevant to the field of biomedical sciences.

Utilize scientific laboratory equipment and the theoretical knowledge to conduct, analyze and interpret a research project in the field of biomedical sciences and formulate conclusions.
