About Program

Overview

The Master in Intensive Care Nursing is currently witnessing a widespread interest on the knowledge and technical levels, and that requires the faculty members and staff to be prepared to keep following-up the development that is expected to continue for decades.

This program provides an opportunity to Nursing BA students who want to continue their higher education and conduct some researches and maybe to get their PhD degrees as well. Furthermore, this program targets students who aim for a work opportunity in governmental and non-governmental institutions, especially those institutions that aim to improve the nursing care for patients in intensive care departments.

The Master in Intensive Care Nursing in AAUP emerges from the philosophy of preparing efficient nurses holding university degrees, and nursing specialists with high level of efficiency in intensive care nursing who are able to compete in this era of globalization and in the free market.

Goals

The overall goal of the program is to prepare master level nurse graduate with advanced knowledge and skills who can function as an effective critical care nurse specialist and assume accountability for leading the health care service delivery reforms provided to individuals, families and community.

Program specific goals:

Enhance students’ roles as leaders and innovators committed to improving best practices of intensive care nursing services.
Prepare students to conduct scientific nursing research and engage in rational inquiry using nursing processes and current research to improve evidence-based practice in intensive care settings.
Improve student's knowledge, skills, attitudes and clinical reasoning skills necessary for the advancement of patient centered care in intensive care and community settings.
Prepare ethically responsive nursing leaders who advocate influencing policy decisions to improve healthcare that is effective, timely, efficient and equitable for all members of society.
Develop effective professionals in health promotion, disease prevention, quality, and safety nursing practice in addition to teaching and training roles in academic and clinical institutions.

Career of Graduates

After finishing the Master program in Intensive Care Nursing and writing the thesis (research) in their field, graduates will:

Have a wide knowledge in their specialized field and enough knowledge and information to know how to deal with problems in the intensive care departments and how to solve problems through practical improvement and scientific studies.
Have a broad understanding of the scientific and practical aspects within their field of expertise, and have practical experience in the current developments happening locally and globally.
Be Capable to direct, manage and train others to work in this field in light of the local and international scientific developments.
Be Capable to efficiently continue their higher education to get a PhD.

Practice research to support the application of best nursing evidence and practice in intensive care units.

Contribute in the development and validation standards / guidelines / protocols in intensive care units.

Use high fidelity critical care simulation scenarios to enhance clinical reasoning and appropriate application of the nursing processes.

Apply comprehensive professional knowledge of current research to improve health care outcomes in a variety of critical care nursing practice settings.

Participate in the advancement of professional critical care nursing practice through contributions to administration, health care policy, and knowledge development.

Demonstrate caring, culturally responsive leadership communication, capable of effectively leading interdisciplinary health care teams in critical care areas.

Translate knowledge of ethical healthcare policy decision-making of all components of nursing practice in healthcare organizational systems and Synthesize comprehensive knowledge of best nursing practice in specialized areas of health promotion and disease prevention in healthcare systems.
