About Program

Overview

Perioperative patient safety and anesthetic quality care because national priorities worldwide, which has been progressively stressed throughout the past few decades. Nurses play an important role in the provision of high-quality care to patients undergoing surgery, anesthesia experience, and risk reduction in complications and mortality. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists have been practicing for the past 110 years, and currently deliver more than 65% of anesthetics in the United states. Nurse anesthetist ensures that patients survive surgery without pain and placed their position high on the highest jobs’ lists especially in the United States.

The shortage of nurse anesthetists, and accredited nurse anesthetic programs is growing globally in relation to the increased demand for quality anesthetic services. Students are expected to complete 2-3 years of coursework requirements to include lecture, clinical, simulation, clinical training and residency to complete a master program in nurse anesthesia. Nurse anesthetists can also obtain sub-specialization in pediatrics, plastic surgery, dental, obstetrics, cardiovascular, plastic surgery, or neurosurgical anesthesia.

Palestine witness severe shortage of qualified anesthesia nurses in both private and public sectors. This shortage is expected to be deepened in the midst of increasing number of surgeries, and adequate pain control needs preoperatively. The scarcity of specialized anesthesia nursing staff, as well as unstructured training programs, are challenges to improving perioperative patient care in Palestine.

The Faculty of Nursing at AAUP has contacted hospitals, nursing administrators, and community leaders who showed their full support for the establishment of this master program. This also goes in line with requirements of the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education which emphasizes the importance of improving quality of education, and the health care services for the Palestinian population.

Goals

Prepare graduate students to conduct scientific nursing research and engage in rational inquiry using nursing processes to improve evidence-based practices in anesthesia care settings.
Provide students with advanced skills necessary for the advancement of patient centered care in anesthesia care settings.
Prepare ethically responsive nurses who can provide high quality anesthesia nursing services.
Synthesize advanced knowledge in anesthesia nursing to provide high quality preoperative care managements.
Prepare competent anesthesia nurses capable of provision of safe and distinguished anesthesia practice.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students should be equipped with comprehensive knowledge, skills, and abilities to excel in their endeavors.

Formulate and execute plan of care based on physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, appropriate health assessment and evidence based guidelines.

Conduct a comprehensive perioperative assessment of patients undergoing all varieties of surgical procedure, including appropriate ordering of tests.

Use high fidelity anesthetic care simulation scenarios to enhance clinical reasoning and appropriate application of the nursing processes.

Demonstrate caring, culturally responsive leadership communication, capable of effectively leading interdisciplinary health care teams.

Translate knowledge of ethical healthcare policy decision-making of all components of nursing practice in healthcare organizational systems.

Critically examine and demonstrate continuing synthesis of new knowledge from scientific literature as a basis for informed nurse anesthesia practice.

Evaluate clinical management of anesthesia care interventions

Respond quickly and effectively as a team member when cardiovascular and/ or pulmonary emergencies occur.

Assess and adequately manage the anesthesia for neonates, infants and children.

Develop and participate in anesthesia programs as a skilled educator and researcher.
