Overview

PhD in Digital Diplomacy at AAUP focuses on how the digital world would affect the political sphere within the international arena. In this program, more specifically, there will be a significant concentration on tools like social media, AI, and cybersecurity in shaping international relations and the diplomatic process.

This PhD program is an intersection of diplomacy and digital studies. There is an emphasis on theories and theory development from an academic point of view while using case studies from current events in modern society to apply political science and international relations theories.

Goals

Provide students with an understanding of the theory and practice of both traditional and modern diplomacy.
Enable the student to assess opportunities to increase reputation and standing through diplomacy.
Instill within the students an understanding of the relationship between international relations, political science, public relations and diplomacy.
Strengthen the student’s understanding of the impact of communication style and develop the students’ ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups.
Enable the student to propose solutions to complex diplomacy conflicts and challenges.
Provide the students with knowledge of current public relations strategies and techniques, particularly the use of social media in public relations.
Improve the student’s ability to thoughtfully engage in social research and conduct qualitative and quantitative research.

Career of Graduates

Scholars who study Digital Diplomacy usually pursue careers in academia, diplomatic relations, international organizations, the private sector in consulting firms, and media and communications.
