Overview

This BA degree program in Speech, Language, and Hearing Disorders will contribute in preparing specialists who are able to provide help to people of all ages who suffer from developmental delay, congenital disabilities and intellectual disabilities, weakness in hearing ability, autism, cerebral palsy and acquired disabilities such as brain injuries and strokes. This program in comprehensive and includes all the related scientific courses that are taught in the best US universities. The program will provide scientific experiments and intensive clinical training to provide students with knowledge and scientific skills to be able to work with patients efficiently.

Students will learn about Anatomy and Physiology including speech, hearing and sound mechanisms and visualization, how to develop language and communication systems, the sound system components, the neural science of speech, language and hearing and the strategies used to manage and assess speech and language disorders and hearing defects. This program also targets all areas of hearing and balance for both children and adults

AAUP works on establishing a special center equipped with the latest and modern technology and qualified staff to provide services for patients with disorders. After finishing 4 college year of (138 Credit Hours), graduates of this program will have a Bachelor degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Disorders.

Mission

Speech, language and hearing disorders have a significant impact on people’s daily lives, and can leave them feeling lonely, isolated and frustrated. Meeting the needs of these individuals requires advanced practitioners in the field of speech, language and hearing disorders, who are supposed to provide evidence-based intervention and services in various workplace settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools and private clinics.

  • Develop competencies in assessment, intervention, and evaluation of patients with communication disorders.
  • Prepare ethical, responsible, leaders who can effectively communicate and manage services for clients with communication disorders.
  • Equip graduates with solid research capacity and life-long learning skills.

Career of Graduates

Graduates from the BSc program in Speech, Language, and Hearing Disorders will possess a wide variety of working opportunities not limited to healthcare organizations in Palestine and the Middle East region but extends to cover academic institutional work force. This profession is growing rapidly worldwide and receiving considerable attention as part of the development and improvement in technology. Graduates of the CSD program will have several career path options, as follows:

  1. Speech and Language Pathologist at the Palestinian Health Governmental institutions.
  2. Speech and Language Pathologist and Audiologist at Private Clinics.
  3. Speech and Language Pathologist at Schools.
  4. Speech and Language Pathologist and Audiologist at Hospitals / Outpatient Clinics: Consider working in the following departments: rehabilitation, otolaryngology (ENT), pulmonology, GI, neurology, pediatrics.
  5. Participate in any research project about communication disorders in general (Speech, Language or Hearing).
  6. Rehabilitation Aide: work with therapists, order supplies, set up, take down and assist in sessions.
  7. Clinical Supervisor.

Upon completion of this program, students should be equipped with comprehensive knowledge, skills, and abilities to excel in their endeavors.

  • Explain normal communication and swallowing processes including, biological, neurological, acoustic, psychological, developmental, linguistic, and cultural bases.

  • Recognize specific etiologies and characteristics of developmental and/or acquired speech, language, swallowing, and hearing disorders.

  • Apply methods of prevention, assessment, and therapeutic interventions for people with communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan.

  • Plan and execute best evidence-based practices and modalities used in the management of individual with communication disorders.

  • Perform exceptional leadership, interpersonal skills and accountability to the client’s needs, their families and institution.

  • Employ effective oral and written communication skills among interprofessional team and clients.
