Monday, July 1, 2024

The Conflict Studies Research Center at the Arab American University Ramallah campus has held a symposium to discuss the “Why it Worked” project in cooperation with the Ruaa Center for Political and Strategic Studies.

The symposium brought together international academics and researchers from Harvard, George Mason, Delaware, and Ottawa universities. The symposium aimed to present five analytical studies of long-term and unequal international conflicts, during which researchers reviewed their studies and in-depth analyzes of the reasons for the success of some strategies for resolving political conflicts at the international level, giving attendees a deeper insight into the complex dynamics of these conflicts. The importance of the event comes from sharing knowledge and visions in order to achieve a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the challenges facing different societies, especially the Palestinian society.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Asia, Vice President of the Arab American University, Ramallah Campus, welcomed the attendees, stressing the importance of this type of academic event in enhancing scientific and knowledge exchange between researchers in different universities around the world. He said: "We pay great attention to partnerships with international universities, and this symposium embodies a platform to promote constructive discussions among academics about strategies for resolving political conflicts and how to apply them."

Professor Dr. Ayman Yousef, lecturer in international relations and conflict resolution and member of the Board of Trustees of the Conflict Studies Research Center, pointed out the Center’s role in highlighting complex conflict issues and providing solutions based on scientific research. He also mentioned the need to commit to developing academic research as a tool for understanding and treating political issues.

Fatina Hoadli, one of the founders of the Ruaa Center for Political and Strategic Studies, also pointed out the importance of this project, saying: “This project is just an idea before it was published, and now it has succeeded in bringing together this number of academics and researchers from different parts of the world to discuss strategies for resolving political conflicts.”

The event was concluded with several important results, including the need to strengthen international cooperation in the field of scientific research on international conflicts, the importance of using scientific research as a tool for developing effective strategies for resolving political conflicts, and the importance of exchanging experiences and knowledge between academics from different disciplines and geographical regions to enhance a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the complicated issues facing communities.
