The Arab American University Holds a Symposium Titled “What’s New in the Current War”

Wednesday, May 15, 2024

The Faculty of Arts and Education at the Arab American University, in cooperation with the Student Council, has held a symposium titled “What’s New in the Current War”. The symposium was attended by a group of University students, and presented by a member of the Legislative Council, Dr. Jamal Hwail, and a professor of political sciences at the University, Professor Dr. Ayman Yousef.

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Education, Dr. Jamal Hanaysheh, inaugurated the symposium with a speech in which he stressed the importance of the symposium’s themes, and the importance of large and active student participation in all activities rejecting the war of genocide in Gaza.

Prof. Dr. Yousef spoke during the symposium, stressing that in the history of the world and the history of long and protracted conflicts, states and regimes cannot prevail over peoples. Moreover, the resistance in Gaza and all of Palestine has a popular incubator and is the most important factor in steadfastness and victory. He added that the war on Gaza restored the national liberation movement’s global reputation. It also gave great momentum to the boycott movement, as is the case in American universities, and led to the internationalization of the conflict with Israel. There is growing global and popular hatred against Israel and the forces supporting it, due to war crimes, genocide, and continuous occupation for more than seventy years, Prof. Dr. Yousef added.

He pointed out that one of the consequences of the war on Gaza would be the entry of China and Russia, which will play important roles in the region, while America will lose its individuality in making decisions in the Middle East and harnessing all its capabilities to support the survival of Israel.

For his part, Dr. Hwail spoke about the scenarios of the war on Gaza, and stressed the important role of Palestinian universities, which must be effective and strong to deliver a clear message to American and European universities that the war of genocide must be stopped, and the occupation of the Palestinian land must end. He added that this people cannot habit with the scene.

Dr. Hwail added that Gaza today is fighting the entire world and challenges all the forces of evil and slavery. October 7 will remain a milestone in the path to liberating all of Palestine and a turning point, because it is a revealing battle for all, Arabs and non-Arabs, and showed the extent of global hypocrisy when it comes to the rights and humanity of the Palestinian people, he added.

During the symposium, many questions were asked and many discussions took place about the war on Gaza, ways to get rid of the occupation, the importance of using what happened to benefit the Palestinian cause, and how to address the world and use it for the liberation of Palestine.
